Wonder how many folks are over here.

Anyone have an Irwin10/4 with the YSB8 motor? On mine the waterlift muffler has broken it's mounting bolts and is bouncing around. In looking at it, there is only about 3 inches of rubber hose between the exhaust elbow and the muffler, so there is very little vibration isolation between the motor and the muffler.

I'm going to have to work this around a little with new muffler.. Anyone done this on an Irwin 10/4? I'm looking for ideas.

Rob,

I dont' have a I 10/8 or a YSB8, but I do have a water lift muffler attached to a Perkins 4.107 that I am currently working on, My bracket also fell apart, but that is the only problem I am having. On mine engine there is a flexable metall hose that goes from the exhast to the muffler, no rubber hose. It is about a foot long and seems to handle the vibration well. Is there a way to extend your back a bit and lengthen the hose from the elbow?

Ryan,
The muffler I have now has the intake on the top, and the motor sits pretty low in the boat, so it doesn't amount to a lot of room. I think what I'm going to have to do is get a muffler with a side or bottom intake and then fabricate a new mounting platform for it a bit further aft. I think what you have with a foot or so is a more reasonable run to isolate the motor vibrations.

Is your muffler one of the newer composite mufflers? I think mine is an original from 1976, metal and I always get a lot of rust in the exhaust when I first start.. I'm hoping the rust is from the muffler anyway.

Thanks for the feedback.
