I have an old--1974, I think--Irwin 24. The starboard side, aluminum with teak strip in the middle rub rail was ripped off from stern to amidships in a bizarre accident that is too embarrassing to detail. The aluminum is twisted beyond repair and hanging off the side of the boat. Does any one have recommendations for repairs? Rip the whole thing off and replace entirely? How do I do that without damaging the seam? Thoughts, anyone? And then there's the issue with the carburetor pin and flap that hangs up. But that's for another day, unless someone knows how to deal with that as well. It's a Volvo engine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can search the internet for rub rails to match, they are still made, Or you can replace with a teak one with an stainless steel half round strip. You must first remove the old one by unscrewing it . The new one must be steamed and then bent in place and screwed. I've done this on a few boats you should be able to do one side per day.
