I've discovered rot has set in around the starboard chainplates of my Irwin 23 and need to replace the bulkhead. It's tabbed in along the side of the hull, but it's attached to the overhead....somehow.
I'd like to pull the old bulkhead out and use it as a template, but not knowing how it's attached to the overhead, I could damage it as remove it. I especially don't want to damage the overhead more than I have to.
Has anyone run into this before, and if so, are there any tips you could give me?

if the inside of the cabin has the drop down slot that the bulkhead is recessed into ,that is a problem for you. it is like the top is fitted around the bulkhead when fastened to the hull. can't be a large area to fix unless it is a total rot out. can you give more purchase forward and aft of the chainplate with a large piece of 1/4 " plate and tie the chainplates through bolted to it. fix the darn leak also . i just had a friend loose 56' mast because of chainplate rot..... the devil got him and his pocketbook ,no insurance...
