Greetings.

I have a power inverter to convert 12v to 110v.

This may seem like an odd question, but I was wondering if when I am not on shore power if I could turn off the breaker for 110v and make a 110 power cord with 110 plugs on both end that I could use plug the the inverter into one of the 110 outlets then use 110 at one of the other connected outlets. It would save me running extension cords around.

Of course I would need to be very very very careful to never hook up shore power with the inverter plugged in.

This would be a temporary solution for a trip I'm taking next week. Long term I'll probably properly add it to the power panel

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,
Sure you can connect your inverter to your main system by plugging in a jumper from your 110 out on your inverter to a plug in the boat. be careful not to shock yourself...

One thing I would be careful about is energizing “all” the 110VAC outlets. The reason for the concern would be energizing the hot water heater. When I installed my diesel generator I installed an 110VAC panel that allowed me to split the 110VAC buss. This allowed me to energize only one side of the buss and I could pick and choose what to energize. Make sure every time you plug your inverter into the 110VAC circuit that everything else is switched off.
